About the Treatment

Crowns and bridges explained

A dental crown is a cap placed over an existing tooth to restore its shape, strength, and appearance. Commonly used for heavily filled, cracked, or broken teeth, or after root canal treatment.

A dental bridge uses crowns on adjacent teeth to support one or more artificial teeth in a gap — a fixed, non-removable restoration.

Dr Pierre Dentistry uses digital 3D scanning for all crown and bridge work. Crowns are fabricated in a dental laboratory from ceramic materials.

Treatment requires two or more appointments: preparation and scan at the first visit, final crown placement at a subsequent visit. A temporary crown is placed between appointments.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

We will discuss all treatment options, including associated costs, to support your informed decision-making.
How long do crowns last?+
Ceramic crowns typically last 10–15 years with good oral hygiene. Longevity depends on oral hygiene, diet, and bite forces.
Is the procedure uncomfortable?+
Preparation is carried out under local anaesthesia. Some sensitivity in the prepared tooth is common for a few days.
Can a crown fall off?+
Crowns can debond. If this happens, contact the practice and keep the crown if possible.
Do I need a crown after root canal?+
In many cases, yes — particularly for back teeth subject to higher bite forces. Assessed as part of the root canal treatment plan.
